First RAMP-A-THON held October 21 - 22, 2006
Richmond teens 'Ramp Up' to help mobility-impaired citizens.
Students volunteered, funding was secured. Our tool-wielding youths expected to erect up to 15 modular ramps for low-income mobility impaired citizens, some who had not savored the fresh autumn air in years because they couldn't get their wheelchairs outside.
Students from two area high schools, Collegiate and Godwin participated in the two-day RAMP-A-THON.
Our 24 volunteers exceeded their goal of 15 with a record breaking 17 modular wheelchair ramps installed in a two-day period.
Besides improving the quality of life for the residents, R.A.M.P.S. also makes a significant economic impact on the community. By keeping people in their homes longer, R.A.M.P.S. has reduced housing costs for recipients who otherwise might have been moved to Medicare or Medicaid funded facilities.
