Catherine is an 88-year-old Richmond resident who lives in an apartment complex with her daughter, who left her job to care for her mother full-time. Catherine has dementia, arthritis, a broken femur, and many other health problems, and uses a wheelchair full-time. Her children have struggled to help her get out of the apartment for doctors’ appointments and have called the rescue squad to assist frequently. The Maggie Walker Governor’s School students, led by Carson Wang, were not afraid to tackle a complex ramp design onĀ their day off (Tues, 2/21) and completed the ramp in a few hours. After Catherine’s son took her for a test run on the ramp, her daughter Vanessa called it a blessing and thanked God for the RampsRVA program. No more rescue squads, and many more outings for Catherine!
