Tina has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that affects the brain and the spinal cord. MS is a demyelinating disease involving attacks to the myelin of our central nervous system. Myelin is the fatty coating that serves as a protective layer around nerve cells and allows for conduction of nervous system signals. Thus when a person experiences an MS attack it is extremely painful, damaging and causes scaring in the form of lesions.
Tina had been experiencing increased difficulty with her mobility, had to use the rescue squad for emergencies, and could no longer walk up/down the steps to get out or in the house. Tina uses a rollator to get around and wasn’t able to walk anymore without one. Her son uses Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs) to walk thus he needed a ramp as well. We knew we had to help!
After building the ramp, Tina was speechless and her son was so excited to walk down the ramp with his mom and dad. Thank you Godwin High School RampsRVA Club for helping Tina get back her independence and go to much needed doctor’s appointments. Congratulations on building your first ramp! We could not do this without you! Thank you for your time, generosity, and dedication to serving your community! To read more about MS, check out Multiple Sclerosis Foundation’s Website.
