Ms. W, a 77-year old Chesterfield resident with multiple health problems, has been unable to maneuver her stairs for months. Her care-giver is her elderly and disabled boyfriend, so they were both in a potentially dangerous situation. She submitted an application to us last August and, thanks to the dedicated team of student volunteers from Glen Allen High School, she gained her freedom and safety on Saturday 3/7/26.
With a few seasoned pros and some new volunteers on the team, these fantastic students gave up a beautiful Saturday to build the ramp. Ms. W was too sick to test it out that day, but she and her caregiver were thrilled with the results and their new mobility. Sending a big thank you to the Glen Allen team - Betania, Shreeya, Angelina, Avanti, Adrian, Avrie, and Carter!

President's Day (2/17/25) was a busy one for the RampsRVA team and two high school clubs! In the morning, the Glen Allen High School Club was out bright and early to change the life of Mr. R, an 84 year-old who lives in deep Southside Richmond and recently became a double amputee. He lives in the household alone, but his ex-wife stays there frequently now to help take care of him. Because they cannot maneuver his front steps, Mr. R has missed many doctor's appointments or has had to call the rescue squad to get him there. We had a big team from Glen Allen - 10 volunteers - who completed a complex ramp in time for Mr. R to come up the new ramp when he returned home from his medical appointment. Despite being a first-build for many, time flew by and obstacles were overcome, giving the gift of mobility, safety, and freedom to Mr. R. A big thank you to Alisha, Angelina, Rabia, Vanvimeah, Catherine, Kim Mainmunah, Avanti, Carter, and Caroline!

Here’s Mr. E with the great Glen Allen HS student volunteers. His brother, who lives with him in Southside Richmond, is the actual ramp recipient. Because his brother is severely disabled and in bed, Mr. E tested out the ramp and thanked the builders. Trips to the doctor will be much safer and easier now. Thank you Selma, Sarah, Sophia, Corinne, Leah, Naomi, Isabelle, and Maxwell.

Glen Allen was new to the game this year but secured a financial gift to help build a ramp for Jaxon M., a 12 year old boy who is a permanent wheelchair user due to a spinal injury. This was their second build; the first build was in December of 2022.
